FIRE UP Coaching
Pioneering excellence in Coaching Education

In 1998, when coaching was still emerging as a professional discipline, Kathy McKenzie founded FIREUP Coaching with a vision that would fundamentally change how leadership development was delivered in Australia. What began as a bold commitment to evidence-based, scientifically grounded coaching education has evolved into one of Australia’s most respected Registered Training Organisations (RTO 22458), recognised globally for setting the benchmark in ICF-accredited coach training.

The First. The Best. The Difference.

FIREUP Coaching created history by developing Australia’s first coaching qualification to achieve dual accreditation under both the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF) standards.

This wasn’t simply about meeting compliance requirement, it represented a commitment to ensuring every graduate could demonstrate measurable competency against the world’s most rigorous coaching standards.

Research consistently shows that structured, accredited training significantly improves coaching outcomes compared to informal training approaches (Grant & Cavanagh, 2004; International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring).

Our qualifications were intentionally designed to bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical application, ensuring our graduates don’t just understand coaching theory, they can apply it with confidence and measurable impact.

We ensure our graduates are ICF Exam ready and coaching with excellence.

Global Recognition, Local Expertise

Under Kathy’s leadership as ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) and an ICF Asia Pacific Ambassador for Coaching Education (2024 & 2025), FIREUP Coaching has become a voice of authority in the global coaching community.

Kathy’s recent presentations at the 2025 ICF Converge in San Diego, the October 2025 Taiwan ICF Chapter Conference, and Chinese ICF Coaching Supervision Conference demonstrate our commitment to advancing coaching practice internationally while maintaining our deep roots in Australian business culture. This isn’t coaching education imported from overseas and adapted, it’s world-class training developed specifically for the Australian context, now recognised internationally for its excellence. The ICF recently featured on Linked In the unique FIREUP Coaching model REACH which is rapport, explore, action, clarify and honour.

Evidence-Based Training that Transforms Organisations

For 27 years, we’ve delivered thousands of coaching programs to organisations across Australia, continually refining our approach based on the latest neuroscience, positive psychology, and adult learning research. Our programs integrate proven methodologies including:

  • ICF Core Competencies: The global standard for professional coaching practice, updated to reflect the ICF’s 2025 competency model
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP): Evidence-based communication frameworks that enhance coaching conversations (Sturt et al., 2012)
  • Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI): Validated thinking styles assessment that enables coaches to work effectively with diverse thinking preferences
  • Conversational Intelligence: Research-backed approaches to creating trust and collaborative dialogue (Glaser, 2014)

This integration of multiple evidence-based methodologies means our graduates develop versatility in their approach. They gain the ability to adapt their approach to each unique client situation rather than relying on a single coaching framework.

A Team of Practitioners, not just Trainers

Every program at FIREUP Coaching is delivered by ICF-credentialed coaches who maintain active coaching practices. This isn’t theoretical training delivered by academics who’ve never coached professionally. We have all run successful business and hence the training is practical, real-world education from coaches who understand the complexities of working with leaders, the challenges of building a coaching practice, and the nuances of creating sustainable behavioral change.

Our team includes Master Certified Coaches, Professional Certified Coaches, and specialist practitioners in NLP, HBDI, and organisational development. When you train with FIREUP, you’re learning from coaches who do this work every day.

Qualifications that Open Doors

Our flagship qualifications—the 11144NAT Diploma of Leadership Coaching and Mentoring and the 11338NAT Certificate IV in Business and Personal Coaching—are recognised pathways to ICF credentialing. Graduates leave with:

  • Portable qualifications: Recognised nationally under the AQF and globally through ICF alignment
  • Practical competency: Demonstrated through assessed coaching practice, not just written assignments
  • Professional credibility: The confidence to work with senior leaders and organisational clients
  • Community connection: Ongoing support through our graduate network and professional development programs

The FIREUP Difference: Transformation, not just Training

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all coaching education. Whether you’re beginning a new career as a professional coach, enhancing your leadership capability, or building internal coaching capacity within your organisation, our programs are designed to meet you where you are and accelerate your development. Research shows that coaching skills significantly improve leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and organisational performance (Jones et al., 2016; Harvard Business Review).

Our programs are built on the evidence-based belief that when leaders develop genuine coaching capability, not just superficial questioning techniques, they create workplaces where people thrive, innovate, and perform at their best.
