In 1998, when coaching was still emerging as a professional discipline, Kathy McKenzie founded FIREUP Coaching with a vision that would fundamentally change how leadership development was delivered in Australia. What began as a bold commitment to evidence-based, scientifically grounded coaching education has evolved into one of Australia’s most respected Registered Training Organisations (RTO 22458), recognised globally for setting the benchmark in ICF-accredited coach training.
FIREUP Coaching created history by developing Australia’s first coaching qualification to achieve dual accreditation under both the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF) standards.
This wasn’t simply about meeting compliance requirement, it represented a commitment to ensuring every graduate could demonstrate measurable competency against the world’s most rigorous coaching standards.
Research consistently shows that structured, accredited training significantly improves coaching outcomes compared to informal training approaches (Grant & Cavanagh, 2004; International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring).
Our qualifications were intentionally designed to bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical application, ensuring our graduates don’t just understand coaching theory, they can apply it with confidence and measurable impact.
We ensure our graduates are ICF Exam ready and coaching with excellence.
Under Kathy’s leadership as ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC) and an ICF Asia Pacific Ambassador for Coaching Education (2024 & 2025), FIREUP Coaching has become a voice of authority in the global coaching community.
Kathy’s recent presentations at the 2025 ICF Converge in San Diego, the October 2025 Taiwan ICF Chapter Conference, and Chinese ICF Coaching Supervision Conference demonstrate our commitment to advancing coaching practice internationally while maintaining our deep roots in Australian business culture. This isn’t coaching education imported from overseas and adapted, it’s world-class training developed specifically for the Australian context, now recognised internationally for its excellence. The ICF recently featured on Linked In the unique FIREUP Coaching model REACH which is rapport, explore, action, clarify and honour.
For 27 years, we’ve delivered thousands of coaching programs to organisations across Australia, continually refining our approach based on the latest neuroscience, positive psychology, and adult learning research. Our programs integrate proven methodologies including:
This integration of multiple evidence-based methodologies means our graduates develop versatility in their approach. They gain the ability to adapt their approach to each unique client situation rather than relying on a single coaching framework.
Every program at FIREUP Coaching is delivered by ICF-credentialed coaches who maintain active coaching practices. This isn’t theoretical training delivered by academics who’ve never coached professionally. We have all run successful business and hence the training is practical, real-world education from coaches who understand the complexities of working with leaders, the challenges of building a coaching practice, and the nuances of creating sustainable behavioral change.
Our team includes Master Certified Coaches, Professional Certified Coaches, and specialist practitioners in NLP, HBDI, and organisational development. When you train with FIREUP, you’re learning from coaches who do this work every day.
Our flagship qualifications—the 11144NAT Diploma of Leadership Coaching and Mentoring and the 11338NAT Certificate IV in Business and Personal Coaching—are recognised pathways to ICF credentialing. Graduates leave with:
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all coaching education. Whether you’re beginning a new career as a professional coach, enhancing your leadership capability, or building internal coaching capacity within your organisation, our programs are designed to meet you where you are and accelerate your development. Research shows that coaching skills significantly improve leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and organisational performance (Jones et al., 2016; Harvard Business Review).
Our programs are built on the evidence-based belief that when leaders develop genuine coaching capability, not just superficial questioning techniques, they create workplaces where people thrive, innovate, and perform at their best.
From corporate executives to healthcare leaders, from aspiring coaches to seasoned practitioners seeking ICF credentialing, FIREUP Coaching has been the trusted partner for individuals and organisations committed to excellence in coaching. Our graduates work across every sector of the Australian economy, bringing evidence-based coaching practice to government, healthcare, education, finance, resources, and professional services.
When you choose FIREUP Coaching, you’re not just enrolling in a course—you’re joining a legacy of excellence, a community of practice, and a commitment to coaching that changes lives. EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Mark Siedle20 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent course from FireUp: "Certificate IV in Business and Personal Coaching" which I completed in 2024. Plus great follow-ups in 2025 with adding me to a Coaching Panel with one of FireUp's clients, plus scheduling FireUp Alumni meetings, and extra free workshops (including most recent one about using AI in Coaching)Posted on Angela Smith13 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Earning my coaching qualification with Fire Up was the best professional development investment I've made (for myself and my clients). I've come away with a deep understanding of practical tools and structures to profoundly support my clients. All of which gave me the confidence to jump right in and start my own coaching practice! The training was of the highest calibre and very comprehensive. As a pathway to ICF accreditation, my Fire Up coaching qualification differentiates me from other coaches. If your intention is to learn to coach in a way that brings about meaningful change for your clients, I highly, highly recommend Fire Up!Posted on Richard Farrelly12 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Certificate IV in Business and Personal Coaching run by FireUp set me up for a transformational journey. It has been instrumental in setting up my own coaching and leadership development business. Kathy is always super-supportive and there is a great alumni network. I have been recommending Kathy and FireUp since I did the course. I looked at a few other coaching courses and none of them come close to hers.Posted on Jane Michele12 August 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. An excellent, in-depth course; I feel equipped to coach proficiently and to extend my potential to support others. Well delivered and challenging, it's important to have the time available to optimise learning. Very well facilitated with assessments that tested and trained us. It also created a strong collaborative of 'alumni' ex-participants - we have continued to meet online and support one another. Highly recommend whether for a career change into coaching or to augment your existing work / life.Posted on Riccardo Estate19 November 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It occasionally feels like there are some gaps in the course material, however the facilitators are always happy to help out. Any issues I had were quickly resolved over email and I got the sense that everyone at FIREUP genuinely cares about the students' growth.Posted on Pete Smith11 November 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
